Bottle banks to carry warnings
Posters on bottle recycling banks is the latest step to encourage people in Staffordshire not to drink and drive.

Bottle banks across the county will be carrying the message "You can't dispose of the consequences of drink driving so easily."

The Face the Consequences campaign will be launched on Monday by Staffordshire County Council's TravelWise Road Safety Unit.

A spokesman for the scheme said drink driving had always been associated with the Christmas period but it was now recognised as a major summer killer.

Legal limit

Alan Prosser, Senior TravelWise Road Safety Officer, said the only safe option was not to drink and drive at all.

"During the summer, when you're with friends it can be easy to drink as part of the social occasion but the consequences of that can be devastating.

"On average 3,000 people are killed or seriously injured each year in drink drive collisions and nearly one in seven of all deaths on the road involve drivers who are over the legal limit.

"Even a small amount of alcohol will affect your judgement, starting with whether you should have another drink and about your ability to."
