Park and ride site criticised
Plans to site a park and ride scheme in green belt land in Leicester have been condemned by a county councillor.

Leicester City Council has proposed siting the development on Aylestone Meadows.

But County Councillor Dave Pollard says a more suitable area would be Fosse Park.

So far the authority has refused permission for the development there.

It claims the site, which is just outside the city boundary, is already saturated with traffic.

But Councillor Pollard thinks its nearness to the M1 and M69 makes it a more sensible choice.

He said: "It is fairly obvious to anyone who looks at a map and has knowledge of traffic that there is a large flow of traffic through the Fosse Park area coming off the motorway.

"There is a perfectly suitable area right there, close to the police headquarters, where a park and ride could be built."
