Bank Holiday drink drive figures up
Breath test
More then 200 drivers were tested in the county over the Bank Holiday
Drink drive figures in Leicestershire show the proportion of drivers caught during the Bank Holiday weekend went up by more than 50% compared with the Christmas fortnight.

Leicestershire Police say they are disappointed by the results - which seem to show the message of their hard-hitting Christmas campaigns are not carrying on into the summer.

Between Friday morning and Tuesday morning they tested 262 people with 7.6 % either testing positive or in some cases refusing to be breathalysed.

The figures show little improvement on June's figures of 8%, in which 188 people were tested.

Over the Christmas fortnight, almost 2,000 people were tested, with 4.9% testing positive or refusing to be testing.

Police say they have tried to increase drink drive campaigns throughout the year and are blaming high figures on the good weather and long light evenings.
