David Tennant is the second Doctor Who to switch on the lights |
Doctor Who star David Tennant has been invited to switch on this year's Blackpool illuminations. The actor, who starred in the BBC drama "Blackpool" which was filmed at the seaside resort, will be flicking the switch on 31 August.
He will be following in the footsteps of fourth Doctor Who actor Tom Baker who switched the lights on in 1975.
This year's illuminations will feature displays featuring characters and creatures from forthcoming episodes.
Designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is also creating a section of lights which will be positioned in the heart of the resort, next to Blackpool Tower.
And to help the community out further, the flamboyant interior designer is donating his 3,000 fee to the Blackpool branch of the NSPCC.
The switch on will take place during a special concert which will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2.
