 Cyclists get a sneak preview of the lights |
Visitors to Blackpool's illuminations are being urged to see the lights on two wheels. Cyclists will get a preview of the famous display when the council opens the Promenade to bike riders only, one week before the official switch-on.
The road will be closed to all other traffic for two hours on the evening of Tuesday 29 August.
Barriers and stewards will be in place to ensure the prom remains traffic free between Starr Gate and Gynn Square.
The Ride the Lights event takes place the night before the North West start of the Tour of Britain on Wednesday 30 August.
World-class riders will leave Blackpool and travel approximately 150km through Hambleton, the challenging Trough of Bowland, Clitheroe, Southport and Crosby, before finishing in Liverpool.
Competitors will race from Scotland, through the North West of England, Yorkshire, the West Midlands and the South East, before finishing in the Mall, London.
