229 million passengers passed through UK airports in 2005 |
The number of passengers using airports in the north west of England has vastly increased in the past year. Blackpool Airport recorded a 42% traffic increase while Liverpool John Lennon Airport saw a 32% rise according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The figures also showed 229m passengers passed through UK airports in 2005 - 6% more than in 2004.
Big growth on routes to North Africa, Poland and Italy helped boost passenger numbers, the CAA said.
Regionally, traffic rose 9% to 95 million, and numbers have now doubled from the 47 million handled in 1995.
