Region's airport figures increase
Liverpool John Lennon Airport
229 million passengers passed through UK airports in 2005
The number of passengers using airports in the north west of England has vastly increased in the past year.

Blackpool Airport recorded a 42% traffic increase while Liverpool John Lennon Airport saw a 32% rise according to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

The figures also showed 229m passengers passed through UK airports in 2005 - 6% more than in 2004.

Big growth on routes to North Africa, Poland and Italy helped boost passenger numbers, the CAA said.

Regionally, traffic rose 9% to 95 million, and numbers have now doubled from the 47 million handled in 1995.
