Jimmy Armfield has been given his own coat of arms |
Former Blackpool and England footballer Jimmy Armfield has taken part in an historic ceremony, officially making him the new High Sheriff of Lancashire. The 69-year-old, who lives in Blackpool, took up the honorary year-long post at a special ceremony at County Hall in Preston last month.
In a ceremony at Lancaster Castle on Friday, he hung his shield alongside those of other former high sherrifs.
Each shield has an individual coat of arms showing each sherrif's interests.
Born in Manchester, Mr Armfield began his Blackpool FC career in 1952.
The official role of high sheriff is "to represent the Queen's executive powers in respect of the administration of justice in the county".
