The former Blackpool and England football captain Jimmy Armfield has been chosen to be the next High Sheriff of Lancashire. Mr Armfield, 67, who still lives in Blackpool, will take up the honorary year-long post on 11 April.
"It is mainly ceremonial but it is my intention to take it into areas where it has never been taken before," said Mr Armfield.
The BBC Five Live pundit is involved in several local charities.

He was made a freeman of Blackpool in 2003.
Mr Armfield, who started his Blackpool FC career in 1952, was a one-club player who retired from the game in 1971.
He captained club and country and was a member of the 1966 World Cup winning squad.
Mr Armfield managed Bolton Wanderers and took Leeds United to the 1975 European Cup Final before focusing on a career in sports journalism.
He was used by the Football Association to sound out the game's leading figures to find out the best replacement for Graham Taylor in 1994.
