Public inquiry into gas storage
Wyre estuary
Canatxx plans to store natural gas in salt caverns
A public inquiry opens on Tuesday into plans by energy company Canatxx to store gas underground in Lancashire.

The company wants to store millions of tons of natural gas in salt caverns beneath the Wyre estuary at Preesall.

Wyre Council decided in April to employ consultants and barristers to fight the plans at a public inquiry.

Lancashire County Council has already rejected the plans on grounds of its impact on the environment and the potential risk of a gas leak.

About 10,000 local residents have also objected.

A public inquiry opens on Tuesday at the Marine Hall Hotel in Fleetwood. The inquiry is due to continue at the North Euston Hotel for the following 10 weeks.
