Gas fight to cost council 60,000
Wyre Council is to spend 60,000 on fighting plans by Canatxx to store gas underground at Preesall in Lancashire.

A full meeting of the council decided on Thursday to spend 40,000 on consultants and barristers to represent the council at a public inquiry.

The inquiry will be held later this year into plans to store up to 2m tonnes of gas under the River Wyre.

A further 20,000 will be spent on investigating plans to carry gas from the proposed site to nearby Nateby.

The council formally opposed the energy firm's plans at a meeting in February.
