'Cold call' control zones set up
Two "cold calling" control zones have been set up in Medway to combat bogus traders and doorstep crime.

Tradesmen who knock on residents' doors in Strood and Brompton will now be required to show identification.

The zones have been introduced as part of an ongoing campaign by Kent Police, Medway Council and Trading Standards to crack down on bogus workmen.

Councillor Rehman Chisti said: "Residents in Medway face problems with bogus workmen."

He added: "Trading Standards receive regular reports where residents hand over thousands of pounds to illegitimate businesses who call door-to-door.

"These control zones are part of the council and police's joint partnership to make Medway a safer place and stamp out this type of crime in Medway."
