Cold callers banned from village
A Kent village is banning cold calling in a move to protect residents from becoming the victims of crime.

Road signs are being put up to advise people that Cranbrook is a No Cold Calling Zone and information is being sent to utility firms and villagers.

It follows surveys by Kent trading standards officers which found that large numbers of people were in favour of stopping face-to-face cold calling.

Council officers and emergency services will launch the scheme on Friday.

A spokesman for the Tunbridge Wells Community Safety Partnership said: "The scheme is designed to reduce the likelihood of residents, particularly older and vulnerable people, becoming victims of distraction burglars and rogue traders."
