Asbestos dump cases 'are linked'
The dumped asbestos
Forensic work is being carried out on the dumped asbestos
Two serious cases of fly-tipping in recent weeks are being linked by Maidstone Borough Council.

Six tonnes of "asbestos-based material" was dumped in woodland off Admiral's Wood Road in Bicknor over Easter.

This latest incident comes after the council had to close Steps Hill Road in Stockbury on 18 March when it was entirely blocked by dumped asbestos.

Anyone with information about the fly-tipping is asked to contact the pollution team at Maidstone council.

The second case of dumping was in woods off the country road between Bredgar and Hollingbourne.

'Successful prosecution'

Environment councillor Malcolm Robertson said: "I'm astounded that this has happened again, especially so close to the previous incident."

Mr Robertson added the two cases are being connected.

"Obviously some forensic work is being done on the material to see if we can trace it back to its origins," he continued.

"We do catch people [who fly-tip] and we recently had a successful prosecution in court."
