Knife amnesty launched by police
Knives
People can hand in their knives without having to speak to police
A two-week knife amnesty is being organised by Humberside Police in a bid to make the streets of East Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire safer.

People will be able to put their knives or other offensive weapons, including knuckle dusters and coshes, in bins.

The initiative is part of the force's ongoing bid to tackle violent crime and reduce anti-social behaviour.

The knife amnesty bins will be placed at police stations and enquiry offices across the region from Monday.

Amnesty bin locations
1. Grimsby police station, Victoria Street
2. Scunthorpe police station, Corporation Road
3. Barton and Brigg police station
4. All stations across Hull

Assistant Chief Constable Alan Lever said: "In many urban areas carrying knives has become more common because they are generally easier to access.

"As a result, Humberside Police are running this knife amnesty in an attempt to recover and dispose of knives and bladed articles which are becoming far too common in our community.

"While the problem of knife related incidents in Humberside is not currently a major one, the amnesty will provide us with the opportunity to rid the streets of some of these weapons in a safe and secure fashion."
