It is hoped the money will help reinvigorate secondary education |
Secondary education in Hull is set for a new lease of life under a 200m investment programme, the council says. All 15 secondary schools in the city are set to be refurbished or rebuilt with the money from the government's Building Schools for Future programme.
The cash injection comes after a joint bid for funding by both Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire councils.
Four secondary schools in the East Riding will be awarded money in the next phase of funding.
Councillor Stephen Parnaby, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "Whilst I am disappointed that the bid has been phased, I am delighted it has been successful."
The government is aiming to rebuild or refurbish every secondary school in the country in the 15 years under the programme.
Hull is one of 10 local education authorities awarded cash in the second wave of funding.
Councillor Colin Inglis, leader of Hull City Council, said the announcement was "excellent news" for the city.
"Providing modern facilities which show we value our pupils and our teachers is an important part of our longer term strategy to reinvigorate secondary education in the city and to raise children's achievements across the board," he said.
