Jimmy Quenton and Lynn Hobson are sure the radios will cut crime |
Traffic wardens have joined the battle against shoplifters in Bridlington. They are being supplied with two-way radios which they can use to tell shopkeepers when thieves are operating in the area.
Shops in Bridlington are already connected to the radio system with traders using the radios to alert each other when a known shoplifter is on the streets.
Now they are being joined by the traffic wardens as they often see things on the streets that traders cannot see.
We think this scheme will have a big impact Lynn Hobson Bridlington Anti-Theft Group |
The Bridlington Anti-Theft Group, which is behind the scheme, is hoping the traffic wardens will reduce shoplifting in the resort. Jimmy Quenton, one of the wardens, said: "We know a lot of regular shoplifters by sight so we can use the radio to warn shopkeepers when they're in their neighbourhood."
Lynn Hobson, co-ordinator of the Bridlington Anti-Theft Group, said: "The wardens see almost everything that's happening on the streets and they can let us, and the police, know what's going on.
"We think this scheme will have a big impact."
