More snow leaves roads hazardous

An icy roads warning has been issued for Herefordshire and Worcestershire after more snow fell in the area.

Two people had a "lucky escape" on Sunday when their car left a road in Worcestershire, coming to rest upside down in a water-filled ditch.

Herefordshire Council said some schools would open for exams only. Twenty-seven schools in Worcestershire are shut.

Gritting teams have been out on roads as the Met Office said the overnight snow had made conditions difficult.

'Extremely fortunate'

Emergency services were called to Plough Road, between the A4538 and Tibberton, Worcestershire, at midday on Sunday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the people in the car had escaped through the boot as the car filled with water.

He added that the pair suffered minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment but said they were "extremely fortunate" to escape.

Overnight, 8cm (3in) of snow reportedly fell in Malvern, Worcestershire.
