The Norovirus, formally called Norwalk, causes diarrhoea and vomiting, and normally lasts for up to 24 hours.

Routine surgery at County Hospital, Ross Community Hospital and Leominster Community Hospital was cancelled after the closure of several wards.

A trust spokeswoman said they were cleaning the last ward affected at Hereford County Hospital.

Sharon Beamish, head of services at the trust, said: "We are in the process of cleaning the last ward today and if it all goes well we should be back to normal by this evening."

She said while they were over the worst, measures had been put in place to minimise the risk of further infection.
