Dee Caffari is sailing against the prevailing winds and currents

Dee Caffari, 32, from Gosport, Hants, set off on 20 November on her challenge to become the first woman to make the 26,000 mile voyage.

The former teacher's trip was in doubt after her autopilot systems failed.

But after carrying out repairs her shore team said things were "looking good" for the voyage to continue.

Currently north of the Falkland Islands she has now finished rewiring and recalibrating the autopilot systems on her yacht Aviva.

In her latest dispatch from Aviva she said she had enjoyed an "alarm free existence for a full day now".

The remainder of the expected 170 day journey could bring 40ft waves, extremes of temperature and severe lack of sleep for Miss Caffari, with sometimes as little as one hour in a 48 hour period.
