The penultimate section of the Gloucester bypass has opened to traffic - more than a month ahead of schedule. The Castle Meads part of the �38m scheme in the south west of the city is designed to take traffic away from the busy Bristol Road.
Work on the final section of the bypass - which was originally given planning permission in 1994 - is due to start in the spring.
Once finished, the project will provide Gloucester with a new link to the M5.
Project manager Nigel Edgeworth said: "The main reason we've finished early is that the embankment we built settled more quickly than expected so we were able to get on with the roadworks on top of it."
