Scouts from Indonesia at the 2005 festival in Essex

The World Scout Jamboree takes place in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, from 27 July to 8 August.

Speed limits and lane closures will be in place around the park.

The event celebrates the Centenary of Scouting, marking the experiment Scout camp organised by Lord Baden-Powell on Brownsea Island, Dorset in 1907.

Land mines

Lord Hanningfield, Essex County Council leader, said: "The world spotlight will be upon us and hopefully we will provide a beautiful stage for the jamboree.

"This is good pre-Olympic practice for us, having so many people from so many different nationalities coming into the county.

"It has involved co-ordination from a lot of our officers in many different areas."

During the Jamboree, young people will take part in activities, including abseiling and canoeing.

They will also explore issues facing young people today from fair trade or land mines to the environment and HIV and Aids.
