Gary Fooks will take up his new post in the autumn
A new manager has been appointed to help oversee the Olympic sailing events in Dorset in five years.

Gary Fooks has been appointed Dorset 2012 Legacy Manager to help Weymouth and Portland's potential as a host to the 2012 Games' sailing events.

The 46-year-old is a keen sailor and has also rowed across the Atlantic Ocean in a boat he built himself.

Mr Fooks will take up the post in the autumn and will try to attract national and international investment to Dorset.

The position is funded by the South West Regional Development Agency, Dorset County Council and Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.

Mr Fooks said: "The 2012 Games present a unique opportunity for all individuals and organisations in Portland, Weymouth and Dorset to raise the bar and realise the great potential we have.

"Creating a lasting legacy will impact on us now and for generations to come, and I am fully committed to helping the area achieve this."
