Last year's Pier to Pier Swim raised 20,000 for the BHF
Hundreds of swimmers have taken part in what is claimed to be the UK's longest offshore charity swim.

The 16th Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim took place on Sunday and was organised by the British Heart Foundation.

More than 400 swimmers of all ages took to the water to swim the 1.4 miles (2.3km) between Bournemouth and Boscombe piers.

Organisers claim the event, which raised 20,000 last year, is the longest swim of its kind in the UK.

Andy Coles, the organiser, said before the event: "In 2005, people travelled from as far as Northern Ireland to take part in the Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim and this year we have already registered a keen swimmer from Aberdeen."
