Pair queue for days for beach hut
The Days queuing outside the beach hut office
The couple began queuing on Thursday and will stay until Monday
A retired couple are so keen to secure a beach hut in Dorset that they are camping out by the seaside so they can be first in the queue.

Alan and Valerie Day will spend New Year's Eve and New Year's Day queuing to fulfil their dream of having a hut at Avon beach near Christchurch.

"Once we've got it we'll never have to queue up ever again," said Mrs Day, 63.

They started their wait on Thursday and will take it in turns until they can sign up for a wooden hut on Monday.

Mr Day, who is 70, said: "The planning and the strategy of it has been going on in our heads for the last three or four months, I suppose, deciding on when we were going to come down and how long we were going to stay."

Beach huts on Avon beach
There are only two beach huts available to rent

The huts can be rented short term but it is the long term, renewable, April to September agreement which the Days are after.

If successful, the couple will pay 700 to rent the hut for the season.

There are only two long term huts available for next year and people will be able to sign up for them from 0900 GMT on Monday at the Avon Beach Shop.

There is no electricity or hot water in the huts and you are not allowed to stay overnight in them.
