Actress charity collects 75,000
Helen Kirk
Helen Kirk's family aim to give a helping hand to young performers
A charity set up in the memory of a young Devon actress who died in a car crash has raised 75,000.

The Helen Foundation was launched by the family of 24-year-old Helen Kirk following her death in a road accident on Boxing Day 2005.

Its aim is to support the aspirations of up-and-coming young performers in Teignbridge where Helen grew up.

The second concert staged by the Helen Foundation takes place on Friday night at St Peter's Church, Shaldon.

The money raised so far has been invested in more than 20 workshops and sent two youngsters on scholarships to America.

Helen's parents, Roger and Annie, who set up the charity with Helen's boyfriend Ben Galloway, said the aim was to open doors for young people in the area.

Mr Kirk said: "We wanted to provide other young people with the kind of experiences in the arts that mattered so much to Helen."
