50 fines for litter and fouling
People in Devon who drop litter or allow their dogs to foul pavements will soon face on-the-spot fines of 50.

Officers are being trained by Teignbridge District Council with new powers under the government's Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Bill.

The "enforcement officers" will be equipped with mobile camera phones to enable them to obtain photographic evidence of offenders.

The officers are due to begin their duties in about six weeks.

The council has said it intends to pursue a "softly softly" approach to start with, but the officers will have the power to issue the instant 50 penalties.
