Chance to hear a rare bird's song
Nightjar
The bird has a distinctive churring song
Bird lovers in Devon are being offered the opportunity to hear the song of a rare species on Sunday.

Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) and Forestry Commission staff are leading a walk across a nature reserve to hear the distinctive churring of the nightjar.

Last year saw the return of the bird to the heath, now owned by the trust, for the first time in 10 years.

The walk, from the Great Plantation to the neighbouring Bovey Heathfield nature reserve, starts at 2030 BST.

Stephen Carroll, of DWT, said: "The return of the nightjar to the site is an excellent indicator to how the site is recovering from its neglected past."

To help continue the progress on the two sites people are also being invited to volunteer on 20 July and help create habitats for the bird.

The day is one of the regular Wednesday practical tasks run by DWT at the nature reserve.
