It is believed there are at least four birds at the heath
An internationally endangered bird has been spotted in Devon for the first time in 10 years, sparking hopes of its revival in the area.

Conservationists at Devon Wildlife Trust (DWT) spotted the nightjar during an event held at Bovey Heathfield.

It is believed there are at least four of the birds and they might even be breeding.

The bird's return to the area comes after a project by the trust to restore habitat at the heath.

The heath has been neglected for many years and used by off-road bikers.

Stephen Carroll, of DWT, said: "It just goes to show that once you've cleared all the rubbish and stopped the disturbance of off-road bikes and cars, the wildlife gradually comes back.

"The return of the nightjar was a key target for our project, so we are really happy to see it this year."
