Council meals change job threats
About 20 jobs could be under threat in Devon because the county council is proposing to change the way it provides meals on wheels services.

Hot meals are currently prepared in 45 different locations around the county and the council says that makes the service patchy and inconsistent.

The council says that it wants to appoint a single service provider to offer more choice and better meals.

In 2003/4 the council prepared more than 400,000 meals for 2,000 people.

The leading contender for the contract is Wiltshire-based Apetito, which currently provides the council with all its frozen meals.

The council said if the contract was awarded, the benefit would be more healthy and varied meals for service users.
