Changes are planned for a meals on wheels service serving 800 elderly and vulnerable people in Somerset. Instead of a daily hot meal, participants will get a batch of frozen meals once a fortnight.
The Women's Royal Volunteers Service has been told its contract is being handed to a private company.
Somerset County Council says the new deal offers choice and flexibility and anyone who needs help preparing the food will get it.
Justin Robinson, from the county council, said: "Many people have told us that above all else they want a service which is reliable, available seven days a week and offers a choice of menu.
"The new arrangements offer real choice and flexibility for individuals who want to receive the service.
"Everyone who needs help to prepare food will get long-term daily help from home care staff."
