This year was the busiest ever for the RNLI in the South West. |
The RNLI had its busiest summer on record according to new provisional figures which show South West lifeboats were launched 682 times. Torbay was the busiest lifeboat station in the south of England, carrying out a total of 60 launches during the period.
The charity believes the increases may be down to the fine weather with more people taking to the water.
The Beach Lifeguard service in the South West also had its busiest summer dealing with more than 7,000 incidents.
Lifeboat crews reported a rise in the number of calls about divers, yachts and motorboats in difficulty as well as an increase in the number of people getting cut off by the tide.
Newquay was the busiest station in Cornwall with 29 call outs.
