D-class lifeboats have a speed of up to 20 knots |
A new lifeboat being dedicated on Saturday in Cornwall will make the county's coast safer, says the RNLI. The new D-Class inshore vessel for St Agnes, the Blue Peter IV, has been funded by viewers of the children's television programme of the same name.
The vessel was officially named back in January at the London Boat Show by one of the show's presenters, Konnie Huq.
The 4.95m (16ft) vessel is 5 knots faster than her predecessor, with a maximum speed of 20 knots (23mph).
St Agnes operations manager Nick Marshall said the new boat would allow the crew to be more flexible in emergencies in reaching those in distress.
