A prisoner who has been on the run from Exeter jail for more than a year has been recaptured. John Blackstock, 45, had been admitted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital for an undisclosed illness when he absconded on New Year's Eve 2003.
Blackstock was arrested on 28 January in Manchester, Devon and Cornwall Police said on Monday.
He had been serving a sentence for dishonesty offences and had been due to be released in September last year.
Dempsey has now been returned to Strangeways Prison in Manchester and will be dealt with for his escape and other offences.
