Dempsey
Dempsey: Police warn not to approach him
Prison staff and police say they are very worried about the health of a prisoner who has been on the run for nearly a month.

John Dempsey, 45, an inmate from Exeter Prison, was admitted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital on Christmas Eve for treatment for an unspecified medical condition.

He was not restrained in hospital and absconded from the ward on New Year's Eve.

Dempsey, who is also known as John Blackstock, is said to need medicine to treat his condition.

The Prison Service said he was a low-level risk prisoner.

He is serving a custodial sentence for dishonesty offences and was due to be released in September this year.

Dempsey is described as 1.7m tall, with short grey hair and blue eyes. He left the ward wearing pyjamas.

Before being imprisoned, Dempsey lived in the Exeter area.

Police said he is not believed to be dangerous, but should not be approached.
