A nudist camp in Devon, which is thought to be one of the oldest in the country, has been snapped up by a private buyer at the last minute. The remote camp at Beaworthy was to be auctioned but the sale was called off after the mystery purchaser offered a "phenomenal price" for the property.
The estate includes a nine-bedroom country house and a naturist colony known as the North Devon Club.
The camp was set up in 1936 by writer and photographer Edward Hemingway.
Estate agents Stags had set a guide price of 400,000 for the property, which had been due to be auctioned in Launceston on Tuesday afternoon.
It is not known what will happen to the naturists who currently pay about 480 a year to rent space to station their caravans on the estate.
