Liam was allegedly assaulted during a drama class |
The father of a Devon boy whose arm was broken during a lesson about bullies says other children and parents have now come forward with stories of bullying at the school. But the principal of Paignton Community College says its stance on discipline has won praise from Government inspectors.
Liam Kirk is recovering at home after his arm was broken during the drama class.
And he says it is not the first time he has fallen victim to attacks, both at school and outside.
"I've had concussion, I've had dislocated joints, I've had bruises, I've been cut, I've had a broken nose, I've had loads of stuff," said Liam.
His father Russell says the school needs to change its approach to bullying.
"If the problem is as severe as it appears, then they have to look at having safe areas for those children to go and they are going to have to have people who are prepared to listen to those children," said Mr Kirk.
"At the moment there is no dedicated support that appears to be in place, from what Liam has said, to support those children and listen to them."
However, Jane English, the principal of Paignton Community College, says the latest Ofsted report commended the caring attitude of the school and its policies on discipline and bullying.
"I'm invoking those policies at the moment and I have this morning interviewed some of the pupils with their parents.
"I have further interviews to do, I will then interview staff.
Removed from school
"When I am in full possession of the facts, I will then decide what action I am going to take."
Devon and Cornwall Police say they are investigating a report of grievous bodily harm at the college.
Liam Kirk has done a videotaped interview with the police and officers are due to interview four juveniles in connection with the allegation.
Russell Kirk says he has heard from other parents and children about bullying at the school, and he is setting up a website for concerned families.
And he says he will not be sending Liam or his brother back to Paignton Community College.
