An investigation is under way into an allegation that a teenage boy's arm was broken during a lesson on school bullying.

Liam Kirk, 14, went to hospital to have his right wrist put in plaster after he was collected from school by his father, Russell.

The incident happened at Paignton Community College in south Devon.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said four juveniles were being investigated over an allegation of causing grievous bodily harm.

Mr Kirk said Liam was taking part in a drama lesson on bullying when the alleged assault took place.

Pupils were being taught about the dangers of bullying and how to report it.

Mr Kirk, from Preston in Paignton, said that Liam's wrist was broken after the teacher had left the room.

Mr Kirk said: "Liam is quite traumatised from it.

"The injury is quite severe and he is in some discomfort because of it."

He said he was considering taking legal action against the education authority.

Sons withdrawn

He has withdrawn both Liam and his younger son from the school and said he was considering moving them to another school or teaching them at home.

Mr Kirk claimed his son had been bullied both in and out of the school.

The teenager has given a video interview to the police, he added.

College principal Jane English was reported to have said the incident was being fully investigated and expulsion was an option if appropriate.

She was not available for further comment.
