Geller urges fans to save club
Uri Geller
Uri Geller says he has already given 25,000 to the club

Uri Geller has called on the people of Exeter to help save their ailing football club.

The psychic and spoon-bender wants fans of Exeter City to "dig deep into their pockets".

The club has just been relegated from the Football League and is facing debts of more than 2m.

Geller was made co-chairman of the club at the end of last season, but it emerged in March that he had never been an official member of the board, as he did not register himself with Companies House and the Football League.

He recently "dissociated himself" from current club directors John Russell and Mike Lewis, but said he would "support the club forever".

In order to save our beloved club, we need hundreds of thousands of pounds

Fans have expressed fears the club may not survive long enough to start the new season in August.

But Geller pleaded with them to act before it is too late.

"It is only with determination, goodwill, willpower and love that the fans and the people of Exeter can save the club," he said.

"The club needs a lot of money right now.

"I have given 25,000 of my money to the club because I saw that the club needed help.

Pledge help

"But, in order to save our beloved club, we need hundreds of thousands of pounds.

"Unfortunately, the only way I can see this coming at this stage is from the citizens of the city."

Mr Geller said he was prepared to put forward another 10,000 of his own money as a "sign of goodwill".

"We need to set up a system where the citizens can put their hands in their pockets and pledge their help.

"If 50,000 or 100,000 people just gave 5, 10 or 20, that would be a lot of money coming into the club."
