Celebrity psychic Uri Geller has temporarily stood down as co-chairman of Exeter City football club because he had not complied with requirements governing company directors.

It has emerged Mr Geller has not yet registered as a director with Companies House.

His son, Daniel, is also not registered as vice-chairman.

The Football League was alerted to the anomaly during a routine inspection of the club's finances.

Exeter City officials believe the issue will be resolved.

But in the meantime, Mr Geller's position has been changed to associate chairman and associate director of the St James Park club.

"Uri has not walked away from this club," Exeter City co-chairman John Russell told BBC Devon.

"It's a technical issue. You have to register with Companies House and the Football League. Uri didn't do that.

Currently travelling

"Titles do not mean anything at Exeter City Football Club. Uri cares immensely about this football club," said Mr Russell.

"It will all be sorted by the summer."

The psychic and spoon bender was announced as co-chairman last year.

He is currently travelling on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus and was unavailable for comment.
