New vehicles to ease congestion
Traffic jam
The rapid response vehicles will be deployed from 4 July
A new traffic scheme is being launched in Devon and Cornwall to tackle congestion on major roads during the busy summer season.

The Highways Agency is organising a special fleet of rapid response vehicles.

They will operate on the region's busiest routes, such as the M5, A38 and A30, to try and ensure there are no hold-ups.

Patrols will be on the roads each weekend from 4 July until 7 September.

Very visible

The idea of the campaign is to make sure traffic is kept moving and any hold-ups are cleared as quickly as possible.

Agency officials hope, by having very visible vehicles, they will make the roads safer.

If there is an accident, they are equipped to call the emergency services, put diversions in place and smooth the flow of traffic.

Hotspots for the patrols will include the M5 between junctions 27 and 31, the A30 west of Exeter and the A38 through Devon and Cornwall.
