Plymouth's Musical Activities Club struck the right jubilee note |
Four community groups in Devon have received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Award. The new award is being given to 200 groups around the UK who volunteer their own time to enhance and improve the quality of life and opportunity of others.
In Devon, the awards are being presented to the Talaton village Post Office, the North Devon Display Gymnastics Club, the Blackdown Support Group and the Plymouth Musical Activities Club.
The Golden Jubilee Award Office said the awards are being given in recognition of outstanding achievements made by the organisations.

Talaton village Post Office in east Devon is staffed by volunteers and is considered to be a much-needed resource by many older people living in the area. It has become known as not just being a place to buy goods, but somewhere where local residents can go for a bit of human contact.
The North Devon Display Gymnastics Club in Bideford and the Blackdown Support Group in Cullompton have also won the award.
The Blackdown Support Group provides information and befriending services, as well as lunch and tea clubs over a 200 square mile area in the Blackdown Hills.
In Plymouth, the city's Musical Activities Club has been recognised, because, say selectors, it gives young people a chance to learn and perform live music in support of other organisations.
The PMAC said of its activities: "Ability is irrelevant at PMAC. The main objective is to have fun."
"It is not just about making music, but about making great friends too."
The Golden Jubilee Award Office said: "The award recognises the vital role played by the hundreds of thousands of 'unsung heroes' of the community and voluntary world and emphasises the importance of continuing recognition of their work."
