Volunteers at Alderney Library are celebrating after learning they have been shortlisted for the first Queen's Golden Jubilee Award.

About 300 voluntary groups throughout Britain have been shortlisted for the award which recognises the contribution and commitment of these groups to the community.

Sir Norman Browse, President of the States of Alderney, former President John Kay-Mouat and the States clerk, David Jenkins, nominated the library volunteers.

Eileen Mignot of Alderney Library said it is a great honour for all those people who have worked there over the years.

The Women's Royal Voluntary Service in Alderney and the Guernsey Welfare Service are also on the list.
