Aircraft traffic visible online
Flights and air traffic patterns at Nottingham East Midlands Airport (NEMA) can now be viewed online by members of the public.

The airport is thought to be the first one in Europe to offer the service.

"WebTrak" provides details about airplanes landing or taking off from NEMA, replaying their paths.

Before now people wanting information about specific aircraft associated with the airport could only get it through written request.

NEMA teamed up with industry experts Lochard to provide the service, which uses data sourced from the National Air Traffic Services radar.

Aviation security

It includes all flights within a 30-mile radius of the airport - with the exception of planes flying above 15,000ft and some light aircraft.

The information is updated daily and displayed 24 hours in arrears in order to maintain aviation security.

NEMA Managing Director Penny Coates said: "When we began consulting on our draft master plan in February, we pledged to introduce a system on-line whereby members of the public, with an interest in movements of aircraft to and from the Airport could monitor this for themselves.

"We want to be as transparent about our operations as possible and WebTrak gives residents living in the vicinity of the airport a much clearer picture about what is happening in the skies above them."
