Airports 'coping' with security
Disruption at airports serving the East Midlands has been kept to a minimum after the national terror alert.

Security was stepped up on Thursday as police disrupted a suspected plot to blow up aircraft mid-flight.

An estimated 10,000 people used Nottingham East Midlands Airport (NEMA) on Thursday but only 16 departures and 11 arrivals were cancelled.

On Friday there were no reported problems at either NEMA or Robin Hood Airport near Retford.

Officials praised both staff and passengers for their efforts and said many people were arriving prepared.

Penny Coates, managing director at Nottingham East Midlands Airport, said: "We are expecting 24 departures carrying over 3,500 passengers before 10am (1000 BST) and so far there are no problems.

"Many passengers have read the information about what can be brought on board and some have even brought their own clear plastic bags."
