Passengers were asked to allow more time to check-in |
Extra security measures are in place at Nottingham East Midlands Airport in response to the terror plot involving flights leaving the UK. All hand baggage will now go into the hold of planes leaving the airport.
Anyone travelling on Friday is asked to contact the airport or their airline in advance to confirm departure times.
Passengers will only be allowed to carry a single plastic bag containing essential items like wallets, travel documents and medicines.
Those travelling with a baby will be allowed to take baby food and milk - but the contents of each bottle will be tasted.
Passengers will be hand searched and footwear must be x-ray screened.
Sixteen flights from the airport were cancelled on Thursday, with nine other flights delayed and 11 arrivals cancelled.
NEMA spokesman Ryan Martinez said delays were inevitable and asked passengers to allow extra time for check-in.
He said: "These additional security measures will make travel more difficult for passengers, particularly at such a busy time of the year. But they are necessary and will continue to keep flights properly secure."
NEMA managing director Penny Coates said there was a likelihood of some delays on Friday.
She said passengers should arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to departure.
