The consultation period will last for three months |
Nottingham East Midlands Airport has unveiled a draft plan for the next 24 years that proposes a quadrupling of freight traffic. Airport managers want to double the number of commercial destinations offered and say the changes could create 7,000 jobs in the next 10 years.
Published at the request of the government, it highlights the airport's plans for future development.
Consultation on the plans will finish on Sunday, 14 May.
Night noise
Members of the public will have the chance to view the plans at 11 exhibitions across the region.
Some local residents oppose the plans, saying the changes will double the amount of night noise in some areas.
But airport managing director Penny Coates said: "We have put together a stringent night control mitigation package and environmental plans to mitigate the impact of doubling the number of flights."
The airport already has a package in place that includes fines of up to 15,000 for airlines that break noise control levels - with the money going directly to a community fund.
She said there are no plans to add another runway at the airport.
Members of the public can view plans at venues in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire on dates throughout February and March, as well as at the airport itself.
Copies of the draft master plan are also being sent to local authorities.
