Shopping centre 'completed early'
Eagle centre
The development hopes to attract big name stores
Work on a massive shopping centre expansion in Derby should be finished sooner than was expected.

The 300m Eagle Centre was due to open for Easter 2008, but developers said they are now on course to bring that forward to Christmas next year.

The centre, which covers an area equivalent to 17 football pitches, is expected to create up to 3,000 jobs.

Managers said they expected the centre to bring shoppers back to the city in large numbers.

Development executive Neil Huntington said: "We are very confident they will come back, the people of Derby are very loyal to the city centre.

"We are also confident of getting the biggest names in the centre and being able to compete with other cities."
