Eagle Centre work shuts city road

A busy road in the centre of Derby is being closed to traffic for up to eight weeks from Monday.

It will affect the stretch of London Road between the Traffic Street roundabout and The Spot.

The closure represents the first significant stage of construction work on the Eagle Centre expansion.

It is happening so that water, gas, electricity and telecommunications companies can upgrade their services in preparation for the development.

Diversions will be set up for vehicles, and buses will be rerouted - the existing bus stops will be relocated to Bradshaw Way.

Thousands of new jobs are expected to be created by the work, which will eventually see a hundred shops on the site.

It is being extended into what used to be the Main Centre.
