New skate park for Peak District
Tideswell youngsters should be rolling out their own skate park this summer after the scheme won planning approval.

Peak District National Park Authority planning committee supported plans for the 79,000 park in the Derby village.

The skateboarding and mountain-biking scheme was designed with the help of Tideswell young people.

The scheme, on recreational land near Bishop Pursglove Primary School, will be funded by Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund's Active England project.

'Reassurances'

The money will also pay for a new youth engagement officer for the village.

Wayne Allsopp, Youth Sports Development Officer for Safer Communities, said: "I'm delighted the scheme has got the go-ahead, and I'm sure the young people of Tideswell will welcome it too.

"They highlighted it as one of their needs, and they've been fully involved with the design."

Planning committee chair Narendra Bajaria said: "We were glad to support the skate park after reassurances that the landscaping, management and monitoring of the park would address concerns about noise and security."
