Two schools in Derbys are hoping for multi-million pound transformations. The county council is bidding for 6m from the government for Mill Hill School, Ripley, and plans to raise 1.5m itself.
It will be used to replace part of an ageing wooden-framed building, which currently holds several classrooms.
The council is also bidding for 2.3m to convert the split-site Immaculate Conception Catholic Primary School in Spinkhill into a single site.
Acting chief education officer David Shaw said: "It is easier for pupils to achieve their full potential if they are working in well-designed, efficient and modern buildings."
